The Federal Reserve’s unanimous 25-basis-point rate hike on September 16 to the 3.75–4.00% target range, paired with projections for another increase before year-end, has emerged as the dominant driver pressuring gold prices during the week of September 14. XAUUSD traded in a roughly $4,235–$4,368 range amid a firmer dollar and elevated real yields, closing sessions near $4,270–$4,330 after earlier weekly declines. Hotter-than-expected CPI and PPI prints reinforced expectations for tighter policy, raising the opportunity cost of holding the non-yielding metal and capping upside. Traders are now focused on subsequent FOMC communications and incoming labor and inflation data for signals on the pace of further tightening, which will shape near-term price volatility and any potential rebounds above key resistance near $4,400.
