Silver (XAG/USD) trades near $63.50–$64.80 per ounce in mid-September 2026, pressured by elevated Treasury yields above 5% on the 10-year and a firmer U.S. dollar amid expectations for a 25-basis-point Federal Reserve rate hike at the September 15–16 FOMC meeting. Market-implied odds for the hike exceed 85–92% following hotter-than-expected August CPI (3.4% year-over-year) and a Middle East-driven oil spike above $100 per barrel, which raised inflation concerns and real-yield opportunity costs for non-yielding metals. Despite a projected sixth consecutive annual supply deficit of 46.3 million ounces, silver has retreated sharply from its January 2026 peak above $120, with industrial demand tempered by thrifting in solar applications. Traders are monitoring the Fed’s dot plot and post-meeting guidance for any signals on further tightening or inflation persistence that could extend near-term downside pressure.
