Recent UK CPI data showing a decline to 2.6% in June, alongside subdued growth and a loosening labor market, have reinforced trader expectations that the Bank of England will hold Bank Rate at 3.75% at its September 17 meeting. Persistent but contained energy price volatility from Middle East tensions supports a cautious stance, with the MPC prioritizing confirmation that any inflation rebound remains temporary rather than embedding second-round effects. Market-implied odds reflect this consensus, as forward guidance and recent votes indicate policymakers favor steady policy amid mixed signals. A sharper-than-expected inflation uptick or hawkish shift in incoming data could still introduce volatility around the decision.
