Romania's recent government collapse following the May 5 no-confidence vote against Ilie Bolojan has left parliament fragmented, with no party holding a clear majority and forcing fresh coalition negotiations ahead of any new investiture. President Nicușor Dan's ongoing consultations with party leaders, including prospects for a technocratic appointee, represent the primary near-term catalyst shaping trader views. This uncertainty sustains a tight race, as Delia Velculescu leads at 28.1% amid speculation over economic expertise while Șerban Matei sits at 18.4% and other contenders trail, reflecting the need for cross-party support to secure parliamentary confirmation. Upcoming talks could quickly shift probabilities depending on whether pro-European alignments emerge or a non-partisan figure gains traction.

To count for resolution, the individual must be formally appointed by the President of Romania and receive a vote of confidence from Parliament, resulting in the official formation of a new government. Any interim or caretaker Prime Minister who does not receive a parliamentary vote of confidence will not count toward the resolution of this market.
If no such Prime Minister takes office by December 31, 2027, 11:59 PM ET, this market will resolve to “Other”.
The primary resolution source for this market will be official information from the Government of Romania; however, a consensus of credible reporting may also be used.
