Chen Ting-fei secured the Democratic Progressive Party nomination for Tainan mayor after winning the January 2026 primary against Lin Chun-hsien, positioning her as the clear frontrunner in a city long considered a DPP stronghold. The Kuomintang's Hsieh Lung-chieh serves as the primary challenger, though a March 2026 poll showed him narrowing Chen's lead to roughly five points amid questions over voter retention from the prior national contest. With the November 28, 2026, election still months away, traders assign high implied probability to Chen based on party organizational strength, historical local voting patterns, and the absence of major new developments or scandals that would alter the competitive landscape. Other listed candidates remain marginal in the current consensus.
