The crowded field of 17 candidates in Alaska's August 18 nonpartisan blanket primary, where only the top four advance, keeps first-place odds tightly clustered among contenders such as Tom Begich, Dave Bronson, Click Bishop, Jonathan Kreiss-Tomkins, and Bill Walker. Vote splitting among the 11 Republicans, combined with Democratic and independent entries, has prevented any candidate from consolidating broad support ahead of the vote. Recent candidate forums and a July meet-and-greet highlighted policy differences on energy costs, education funding, and fiscal issues without shifting momentum decisively. Trader consensus reflects this uncertainty, with limited polling and the three-day timeline leaving room for last-minute turnout or endorsements to separate leaders.
