United Russia maintains its commanding position in the State Duma election market due to its status as the ruling party with deep institutional ties to the executive branch and advantages in Russia's mixed electoral system of party-list proportional representation and single-member districts. Preparations for the September 18–20, 2026, vote show the party controlling candidate registration, media access, and regional mobilization, while opposition groups face legal hurdles including recent court actions that have removed parties like Yabloko from contention. This setup aligns with historical patterns where the incumbent secures constitutional majorities. Realistic challenges would require major unforeseen shifts such as abrupt policy reversals on the Ukraine conflict, widespread economic disruption, or successful legal reversals enabling broader opposition participation, though such developments remain low-probability within the current resolution window.
