Recent July final University of Michigan Consumer Sentiment at 55.2, up from June’s 49.5 amid easing gasoline prices after earlier geopolitical pressures, sets the baseline for the August 14 preliminary release. Market-implied odds cluster tightly around the 52.0–57.9 range because traders weigh the durability of that rebound against persistent inflation concerns, with year-ahead expectations still elevated near 4.2 percent and overall readings remaining well below historical averages. Mixed labor-market signals and potential near-term reacceleration in price views create balanced probabilities, as participants assess whether macro tailwinds or lingering cost-of-living fatigue will shape early-August survey responses. The August preliminary serves as the immediate catalyst.
