Recent southeasterly flow following strong northerlies and heavy rain has introduced cooler maritime air to Wellington, moderating daytime maxima ahead of September 8. Official guidance from MetService and ensemble models points to partly cloudy conditions with highs most likely reaching 12–13 °C, aligning with the market’s leading 13 °C outcome at 48.5 % implied probability. Spring climatology shows typical September maxima near 14 °C, yet the post-frontal stabilization and light winds reduce the chance of brief warming spikes that would favor 14 °C or higher. Traders are weighting these near-term model runs and historical analogs over longer-range variability, with resolution depending on the precise afternoon peak recorded at the official station.
