President Trump endorsed renaming Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) to National Immigration and Customs Enforcement (NICE) in late April 2026 on Truth Social, reposting a viral proposal to rebrand the agency amid criticism over mass deportations and improve media optics by compelling references to "NICE agents." He reiterated support in recent Rose Garden remarks and interviews as of May 12, though nominee Tom Homan vetoed the idea, arguing ICE's "tough" name suits enforcement priorities. Official changes require congressional approval via legislation or appropriations, with no bill introduced; traders monitor DHS budget debates, executive orders, or confirmation hearings that could enable informal rebranding before market deadlines.
