Recent National Weather Service guidance and ensemble forecasts indicate Austin highs on September 17 will likely fall in the mid-to-upper 90s as a ridge weakens and easterly flow increases cloud cover. Afternoon thunderstorm chances around 30% introduce cooling via reduced insolation and evaporative effects, differentiating the tightly bunched 94–99°F outcomes that dominate trader positioning. Southerly moisture and modest wind shifts add variability, while historical September norms near 93°F provide context for the elevated baseline. Model runs through the next 48 hours will clarify whether convection arrives early enough to cap readings at 94–95°F or allows brief clearing toward 98–99°F.
