US District Judge Alvin Hellerstein set a June 1, 2027, trial date in the Southern District of New York for Nicolás Maduro and Cilia Flores on four felony counts, including narco-terrorism conspiracy and cocaine importation conspiracy, following their January 2026 capture and not-guilty pleas. Defense counsel has signaled intent to seek dismissal on head-of-state immunity grounds, with a November 2026 pretrial hearing scheduled for motions. Traders price “No” at 69.5% because the more than ten-month gap to trial introduces substantial uncertainty around procedural rulings, potential plea negotiations, executive-branch policy shifts, or evidentiary challenges that could prevent conviction on every count. Historical precedents involving foreign officials and the indictment’s reliance on complex narco-terrorism elements further inform the current consensus reflected in market pricing.
