President Donald Trump has signaled openness to reviving the paused Project Freedom naval escort operation through the Strait of Hormuz, potentially under an expanded "Project Freedom Plus" mandate if U.S.-Iran negotiations stall. The original initiative launched in early May 2026 to protect commercial shipping but was halted within days at the request of mediating countries including Pakistan, allowing peace talks to advance during an extended cease-fire. Recent reports indicate Saudi Arabia and Kuwait have restored U.S. access to bases and airspace, removing a key logistical barrier that contributed to the earlier pause. Traders are monitoring statements from the White House and Pentagon alongside any breakthrough or breakdown in the 30-day agreement timeline for a final deal with Tehran.
