Silver (XAG/USD) prices have surged sharply in May 2026 amid the sixth straight year of global supply deficits, with industrial demand from solar photovoltaics, electric vehicles, and electronics now exceeding 50% of total consumption. Spot prices climbed from early-month lows near $72 to intraday highs near $89 before easing to the $77–$80 range, driven by dollar weakness, geopolitical tensions, and sticky inflation that have bolstered safe-haven flows. Traders price in limited near-term Fed rate relief given robust nonfarm payrolls, while rising Treasury yields and energy costs introduce volatility. Key upcoming releases include May CPI revisions and June FOMC minutes, with COMEX inventory data likely to influence momentum toward $90 resistance or deeper consolidation if deficits persist.
