The Trump administration's equity investment strategy since January 2025 has driven over $20 billion in U.S. federal government stakes in strategic firms, focusing on semiconductors like Intel—whose position surged $27 billion in paper gains by late April 2026 amid a stock rally—and critical minerals, amid national security imperatives. Congressional scrutiny of Department of Defense equity deals peaked in March 2026, while President Trump declined a Spirit Airlines stake on May 2, signaling selective intervention only for favorable terms. No new acquisitions in defense contractors, AI developers, pharmaceuticals, or TikTok have materialized in the past 30 days, but geopolitical tensions, AI model reviews, and forced divestitures keep probabilities elevated for listed outcomes. Midterm elections in November 2026 and budget negotiations loom as key catalysts before year-end resolution.

Non-equity financial instruments or stakes acquired by private persons or entities not owned or controlled by the US federal government will not count; acquisitions by by states, pensions, index or mutual funds, or consortia will not qualify.
An official US federal government announcement of a completed qualifying acquisition, or of a binding agreement to complete a qualifying acquisition, within this market’s timeframe will be sufficient to resolve this market to “Yes”. Speculation, suggestions, plans, or other announcements which do not announce a completed acquisition or a binding acquisition agreement, however, will not count.
