Mary Peltola holds a commanding lead in Alaska’s August 18 nonpartisan top-four Senate primary, drawing roughly 48 percent of the vote compared with incumbent Republican Sen. Dan S. Sullivan’s 42.7–42.8 percent in results reported so far. Her position stems from strong name recognition as the state’s former U.S. representative, effective grassroots mobilization ahead of the primary, and the structure of Alaska’s ranked-choice system that rewards broad first-round support. With the bulk of ballots counted and absentee votes unlikely to reverse the margin, traders assign her a 99.3 percent implied probability of finishing first. Only a dramatic late swing in remaining ballots or an official recount could alter the outcome, scenarios viewed as remote given the current gap and historical patterns in Alaska primaries.
