Recent polls for the September 20, 2026 Berlin state election show the CDU holding a narrow lead over the AfD, typically in the 19-21% range versus 17-19%, with Die Linke often competitive at the top. This positioning underpins trader consensus favoring the CDU to finish ahead in first-preference votes. Berlin’s urban, western-leaning electorate has historically limited AfD support relative to eastern states like Saxony-Anhalt, where the party leads by wide margins ahead of its September 6 vote. The CDU-SPD governing coalition and candidate dynamics have helped stabilize the center-right share amid national AfD gains. Brief July polling spikes for the AfD have not persisted in August surveys, keeping the implied probability for CDU outperformance elevated.
