The August 18 nonpartisan top-four primary for Alaska governor features 17 candidates competing for advancement to the ranked-choice general election, an open seat created by term limits on incumbent Mike Dunleavy. Recent polling shows Democrat Tom Begich leading the field, with Republicans Click Bishop, Dave Bronson, and Bernadette Wilson among those polling in contention alongside independents such as Bill Walker. Candidate forums and meet-and-greets through July have highlighted intense competition for limited voter attention in the final days, while the structure rewards broad name recognition and turnout among early voters. Results tomorrow will set the four advancers and shape the November matchup.
