Kimi Antonelli’s strong start to the 2026 F1 season has positioned him as the leading contender in the drivers’ championship market, where traders assign him the highest implied probability among a tight group of Mercedes-focused options. The Italian has secured multiple early victories and opened a points gap over teammate George Russell, the pre-season favorite, prompting adjustments in team expectations and intra-Mercedes dynamics. Russell’s experience and recent responses keep his chances competitive, while established names like Lando Norris, Max Verstappen, and Oscar Piastri trail due to current form and team performance gaps. This early momentum shift, combined with historical patterns of rookies sustaining leads in new regulations eras, explains the bunched probabilities without locking in any outcome.
