Recent July JOLTS data showed job openings little changed at 7.271 million, following a revised June level near 7.18 million and prior volatility around the 7.2–7.5 million band. This stability, alongside steady hires and separations near 5.1 million, supports trader consensus clustering around 7.1–7.3 million for August amid moderating labor demand. Market-implied odds reflect uncertainty over whether cooling trends persist or stabilize, with key swing factors including revisions to seasonal adjustments, regional industry shifts, and any pre-release signals from related indicators like nonfarm payrolls. The September 29 release arrives as policymakers weigh labor market tightness against broader growth data.
