Recent redistricting approved by the Missouri Supreme Court has shifted Missouri’s 5th congressional district toward a Republican lean by incorporating more rural counties east of Kansas City while splitting urban Democratic strongholds. Incumbent Democrat Emanuel Cleaver faces multiple Republican primary challengers in the August 4 contest, with the general election set for November 3. Traders assign the Republican nominee a modest edge, reflecting the updated partisan voting index and historical performance in the expanded territory, though Cleaver’s long incumbency and Democratic base in the Kansas City core continue to support competitive positioning. No major polling has emerged yet, leaving the market sensitive to primary outcomes and national midterm dynamics.

A candidate without a ballot-listed affiliation to either the Democrat or Republican parties will be considered a member of one of these parties based on the party with which they most recently expressed their intent to caucus at the time all of the House elections are conclusively called by this market's resolution sources.
