With the August 18 nonpartisan top-four primary just days away, traders see a fragmented field of over a dozen candidates vying for first place in Alaska's open gubernatorial contest. Republican contenders including Click Bishop, Dave Bronson, Adam Crum, Bernadette Wilson, and Treg Taylor split support among conservative voters, while Democrat Tom Begich and independent Bill Walker draw from other blocs, preventing any single candidate from consolidating a clear plurality. April polling showed Begich ahead in early rounds, but the crowded ballot and ranked-choice general election mechanics keep first-place probabilities tightly bunched. Recent candidate filings, voter guide releases, and the start of early voting have not produced decisive shifts, leaving room for last-minute turnout or endorsements to reorder the top finishers.
