Recent polling ahead of Malta's May 30 snap parliamentary election shows the governing Labour Party holding a steady 6-to-10-point lead over the Nationalist Party, with smaller parties including Momentum and AD+PD polling below 4 percent combined. Prime Minister Robert Abela called the early vote on April 27, citing the need for stability amid economic pressures, while emphasizing incumbency advantages in economic management and low unemployment. The Nationalist opposition, led by Alex Borg since late 2025, has struggled to close the gap despite pledges on fixed terms and governance change. Malta's single transferable vote system and historically high turnout around 80-84 percent could still allow late momentum shifts for challengers if campaign events alter undecided voters, though current trader consensus reflects Labour's structural position entering the final fortnight.
