Gérard Larcher, the incumbent president of the French Senate since 2014 and a member of Les Républicains, enters the post-election vote for the chamber's leadership as the clear favorite. The September 27, 2026, partial renewal of 178 seats is expected to preserve the existing LR-centrist majority that has repeatedly confirmed him in the role, including after prior renewals. With no prominent challenger emerging from within the majority coalition and Larcher maintaining broad support among senators, trader consensus at 87.5% for reelection reflects the institutional continuity and limited scope for disruption in the upper house's internal leadership selection. The outcome will be determined by a vote among the full Senate shortly after the indirect elections conclude.
