Penghu County’s magistrate race remains closely contested ahead of the November 28, 2026 local elections, with traders assigning Chen Chen-chung the leading implied probability near 59 percent. The KMT nominee, a sitting township head, benefits from unified party backing after the DPP’s February 2026 decision to substitute Wu Shu-chin for her husband, incumbent Chen Kuang-fu, following his medical emergency and ongoing recovery. Penghu’s history of alternating party control and a crowded field of independents and minor candidates heightens the risk of pan-blue vote splitting, sustaining tight pricing across multiple contenders. Upcoming campaign events, candidate coordination talks, and any shifts in local polling could further separate the frontrunners before election day.
