Romania's pro-European coalition collapsed in early May 2026 after parliament passed a no-confidence motion against Prime Minister Ilie Bolojan by a wide margin, leaving President Nicușor Dan to navigate fragmented parliamentary talks and identify a candidate who can secure investiture. With PSD, PNL, and smaller parties holding leverage but lacking a ready majority, the market reflects broad uncertainty over whether a partisan figure or technocrat will emerge, as the president has signaled openness to cross-party stability options amid fiscal pressures and a June 30 resolution window. Recent consultations have highlighted names such as central banker Șerban Matei and presidential adviser Radu Burnete, keeping probabilities closely matched while any single nomination or coalition breakthrough could quickly shift trader positioning.

To count for resolution, the individual must be formally appointed by the President of Romania and receive a vote of confidence from Parliament, resulting in the official formation of a new government. Any interim or caretaker Prime Minister who does not receive a parliamentary vote of confidence will not count toward the resolution of this market.
If no such Prime Minister takes office by December 31, 2027, 11:59 PM ET, this market will resolve to “Other”.
The primary resolution source for this market will be official information from the Government of Romania; however, a consensus of credible reporting may also be used.
