The 2026 South African municipal elections, set for late 2026 with municipal councils selecting the mayor afterward, keep probabilities closely matched as traders weigh outcomes in Cape Town’s proportional representation system. Incumbent Geordin Hill-Lewis, recently elected Democratic Alliance federal leader, campaigns for a second term alongside nominees from the ANC, EFF (Nontando Nolutshungu), GOOD and Rise Mzansi (Brett Herron), and other parties. Recent candidate announcements, internal party vetting, and voter registration drives maintain balance, while coalition negotiations after the vote remain a key uncertainty. Scheduled party events and local issue polling through the fall could shift consensus by clarifying frontrunners or alliance prospects.
