Following the March 2026 parliamentary election, in which the Freedom Movement secured a narrow plurality but outgoing Prime Minister Robert Golob failed to assemble a stable coalition, Slovenian lawmakers have shifted focus to centre-right negotiations led by Slovenian Democratic Party head Janez Janša. This deadlock, combined with the president’s decision to defer nomination, has positioned Janša for an expected National Assembly vote on government formation. Traders assign him overwhelming probability based on his party’s seat count and reported progress with smaller centre-right partners. Potential disruptions remain limited to last-minute coalition withdrawals, insufficient support on a confirmation ballot, or renewed talks that could extend the caretaker period.
