Erika Jurinová, the incumbent governor of Slovakia’s Žilinský samosprávny kraj since 2017, holds the strongest position ahead of the October 24, 2026 regional election due to her record on road and bridge reconstruction, social services expansion, and healthcare priorities, combined with formal backing from a broad center-right and liberal coalition that includes Hnutie Slovensko, SaS, Progresívne Slovensko, Za ľudí, and Demokrati. Igor Choma, the Smer-SD nominee and former Žilina mayor who previously placed second, trails as the main challenger but faces a fragmented field that also includes Anna Belousovová for Republika, Adam Lučanský for SNS, and independent Martin Kapitulík. A mid-2026 SANEP poll showed Jurinová narrowly ahead amid high undecided numbers, yet trader consensus reflects her incumbency advantage, unified opposition support, and the structural difficulty of unseating an established regional leader in Slovakia’s VÚC system.
