Recent polling averages place the CDU narrowly ahead of or tied with the AfD in the September 20, 2026, Berlin state election, with both parties typically in the 17-20% range behind the leading Left party. This positioning underpins the 75% implied probability that the CDU will receive more votes, reflecting the party's stronger historical base in the capital and its role in the current CDU-SPD governing coalition. AfD gains nationally have narrowed the gap in some surveys, yet mainstream party exclusion of AfD coalitions and the CDU's new lead candidate Stefan Evers after incumbent mayor Kai Wegner's withdrawal have sustained trader consensus favoring the CDU in this head-to-head. Late-campaign shifts remain possible given the close margins and three weeks until election day.
