AfD leads recent polls in Saxony-Anhalt at 41 percent ahead of the September 6 state election, well ahead of the CDU at 26 percent and the Left Party at 12 percent, reflecting growing voter support in eastern Germany. However, Germany's proportional representation system requires roughly 44 percent or higher for an absolute majority in the Landtag, depending on whether smaller parties such as the SPD, BSW, or Greens clear the five-percent threshold. Recent surveys show these minor parties hovering near that line, which could consolidate seats for the AfD but has not yet occurred. The party's adoption of a new manifesto and ongoing national dissatisfaction with federal coalitions have sustained its record polling, yet the gap to outright control keeps the implied probability of an absolute majority near even.
