Lula holds a commanding position in the Pernambuco first-round vote on October 4, 2026, driven by his birth in Garanhuns within the state and decades of strong Workers’ Party infrastructure across the Northeast. Recent national polls place him at 39–42% overall, with markedly higher support in the region where he has consistently outperformed national averages. Opposition figures such as Flávio Bolsonaro, Ronaldo Caiado, and others register minimal traction locally amid a fragmented right-wing field. Official campaigning began in mid-August with Lula emphasizing social programs and economic measures that resonate in the state. While a major scandal, health event, or sharp turnout shift among opposition voters could theoretically narrow the gap, the current trader consensus reflects entrenched regional loyalty and limited credible challengers.
