Ohio's open secretary of state race features Republican nominee Robert Sprague, the current state treasurer, against Democratic nominee Allison Russo, a former House minority leader. Sprague secured his nomination with strong party support after defeating a primary challenger, while Russo prevailed in a contest highlighting Democratic divisions. With no incumbent, trader consensus assigns Sprague a modest edge consistent with Ohio's recent Republican lean in statewide contests, yet the market remains relatively tight because parallel 2026 races for governor and Senate show narrow margins that could drive shared turnout patterns. Key upcoming factors include candidate fundraising, endorsements from legislative leaders, and any shifts in voter priorities around election administration and redistricting. A Libertarian candidate on the November 3 ballot adds a minor variable to vote distribution.
