**US monetary policy expectations and hotter-than-expected August inflation data dominated gold (XAU/USD) sentiment during the week of September 14, 2026.** Spot prices traded near $4,300 per ounce, down from prior levels near $4,400, as the Federal Reserve delivered a widely anticipated 25-basis-point rate hike to the 3.75–4.00% target range on September 16 and its dot plot signaled at least one additional increase by year-end. Elevated Treasury yields, a firmer dollar, and rising real rates increased the opportunity cost of holding non-yielding bullion. Geopolitical tensions drove oil prices above $100 per barrel early in the week, reinforcing inflation concerns and supporting rate-hike odds above 85%, though the subsequent stall in crude eased some pressure. Traders focused on whether the Fed’s hawkish guidance would sustain the recent downtrend or allow a technical rebound.
