Incumbent Democratic Attorney General Josh Kaul holds a strong position in the November 2026 general election against Republican challenger Eric Toney, the Fond du Lac County district attorney. Kaul secured uncontested nomination in the August primary after announcing he would seek a third term rather than run for governor. Toney also advanced without primary opposition in a rematch of their 2022 contest, which Kaul won by roughly 35,000 votes. Recent developments include a July Wisconsin Supreme Court ruling favoring Kaul on authority over settlement funds and ongoing partisan debates over law enforcement priorities and state legal actions. Trader consensus on platforms like Polymarket reflects Kaul’s incumbency edge and fundraising in a state Trump carried in 2024, though the race remains one of several competitive Democratic-held attorney general seats nationwide.
