Recent forecasts for Wellington indicate a southerly airstream and likely rain on September 22, supporting maximum temperatures near 12–15°C amid spring’s transitional patterns. Southerly winds from cooler Southern Ocean waters, combined with cloud cover and frontal passages, typically suppress daytime highs compared to northerly flows that can elevate them several degrees. Historical September maxima average around 14–15°C with notable day-to-day variability driven by the region’s exposure to disturbed westerlies and local topography. Model consensus remains broad this far ahead, with limited divergence in guidance so far, which aligns with the market’s even distribution across 13–17°C outcomes and low odds on extremes. Updated runs closer to the date will likely narrow the range.
