Tennessee's May 2026 congressional redistricting transformed the 9th district from a long-standing Democratic stronghold centered on Memphis into a more competitive seat extending toward Nashville suburbs, yielding an R+9 Partisan Voter Index and a 21-point Trump margin in the prior presidential election. This map change prompted incumbent Steve Cohen to forgo reelection and shifted the race into Solid Republican or Likely Republican territory according to major forecasters. Following August 6 primaries, Republican state Sen. Brent Taylor secured his party's nomination while Democratic state Rep. Justin Pearson advanced on the other side, with traders pricing the Republican nominee as the clear favorite based on the altered electorate and limited recent polling shifts.
