Incumbent Republican Bryan Steil faces Democrat Mitchell Berman in Wisconsin’s 1st congressional district general election on November 3, 2026. Steil, who won reelection comfortably in 2024, advanced unopposed in the August 11 Republican primary, while Berman secured the Democratic nomination with 44 percent in a four-way contest. Race forecasters rate the seat Likely Republican, citing the district’s partisan lean—where Donald Trump carried it by roughly six points in 2024—Steil’s substantial fundraising edge exceeding $4 million in cash on hand, and his established incumbency in the southeastern manufacturing and suburban areas. A late-August poll showed the candidates nearly tied among likely voters, underscoring the seat’s potential competitiveness in a national environment, yet the Republican baseline and structural advantages keep trader consensus on a GOP hold.
