Gold (XAU/USD) trades near $4,040–$4,050 per ounce as of August 1, 2026, after pulling back from January highs above $5,600 amid a stronger U.S. dollar and firmer Treasury yields. Recent data showing resilient Q2 employment costs, Chicago PMI, and consumer sentiment have supported expectations for a more hawkish Federal Reserve path, raising real yields that weigh on non-yielding bullion. Geopolitical tensions in the Middle East continue to provide a risk premium, while central bank demand offers structural support despite signs of moderation. The week of August 3 begins after a weekend close, with traders watching incoming U.S. economic releases and any shifts in rate-cut odds for directional cues.
