Tensions between Iran and several Western and Middle Eastern governments have driven repeated diplomatic expulsions, with Australia ordering out the Iranian ambassador and staff in August 2025 over alleged antisemitic attacks, the United States quietly removing the deputy UN envoy in December 2025 on national security grounds, Saudi Arabia expelling five diplomats in March 2026 amid missile-related strains, and Lebanon declaring the ambassador persona non grata the same month. France most recently announced the expulsion of two diplomats in mid-August 2026 following an assault on French officials. These actions reflect responses to security incidents, proxy conflicts involving Hezbollah, and broader diplomatic friction, creating trader focus on whether additional expulsions occur before key deadlines amid ongoing regional volatility and potential retaliatory steps.

For the purposes of this market, “expel” refers to a formal action by a country requiring the Iranian Ambassador currently stationed there as of market creation to leave the country, including a declaration of persona non grata. Revocation of the Ambassador’s visa or denial of entry to that country will not alone suffice.
An announcement of a qualifying expulsion will suffice for a “Yes” resolution, regardless of whether the Ambassador actually leaves the country.
The primary resolution source for this market will be official information from the relevant country’s government; however, a consensus of credible reporting may also be used.
