Recent polling trends ahead of Berlin’s September 20 state election show Die Linke holding a narrow lead for first place, leaving CDU and AfD as the primary contenders for second. Surveys from INSA, Civey, and Infratest dimap in July and August place the parties within a few points of one another, with CDU often edging AfD but both well ahead of Grüne and SPD. The CDU’s position has stabilized following the earlier replacement of its lead candidate, while AfD support has fluctuated with national trends and local issues. This narrow gap in voter intention surveys underpins trader consensus that the outcome for second remains closely contested, with modest shifts in turnout or late-campaign events among key voter blocs likely to determine final placement.
