The open mayoral seat in Fernie’s October 17, 2026 municipal election, following incumbent Nic Milligan’s decision not to seek re-election, has produced a tight contest between sitting councillors Kyle Hamilton and Harshan Ramadass. Traders price the race near parity, with Hamilton and Ramadass as the clearest frontrunners amid numerous lower-probability options. Hamilton’s earlier announcement and emphasis on continuity contrast with Ramadass’s later entry focused on infrastructure, affordability, and decisive leadership, mirroring existing council divisions between established factions. Limited public polling and the small-town electorate keep probabilities compressed, with separation likely hinging on upcoming candidate forums, targeted policy contrasts, and turnout among key local voting groups before election day.
