Lee Shu-chuan holds a strong lead in the New Taipei mayoral market as the joint KMT-TPP nominee following his April 2026 primary victory over Huang Kuo-chang, who subsequently suspended his bid and pledged support. This opposition alliance, combined with the open-seat contest after incumbent Hou Yu-ih reached term limits, has consolidated non-DPP backing in Taiwan’s most populous city ahead of the November 28 vote. Su Chiao-hui, the DPP legislator and nominee since late 2025, trails as the main challenger, with recent campaign activity centered on urban renewal proposals while Lee emphasizes cross-river infrastructure and coordination with Taipei. Polls have fluctuated, occasionally showing narrower gaps, yet trader pricing reflects the structural advantages of unified opposition support and continuity from the outgoing administration. Minor candidates, including independents, register negligible probabilities.
