Gold trades near $4,477 per ounce as of September 5, 2026, consolidating after swings between roughly $4,280 and $4,720 in recent weeks amid shifting Fed rate expectations. Traders focus on the upcoming U.S. PPI and CPI releases for August on September 10–11, which will refine probabilities around a potential September FOMC hike versus a hold, directly influencing real yields and the dollar. Recent comments from Governor Waller have tempered hike odds, easing some pressure on the non-yielding metal, while persistent central bank demand and geopolitical tensions near the Strait of Hormuz provide structural support. The week’s data flow, combined with Labor Day holiday liquidity effects, positions gold’s near-term path as highly sensitive to inflation surprises and any repricing of the Fed funds path versus Treasury yields.
