Recent polling in mid-September 2026 places the CDU narrowly ahead of or tied with the AfD in projected vote shares for the Berlin state election on September 20, supporting trader consensus that the CDU is more likely to finish first between the two. The CDU, now led by Spitzenkandidat Stefan Evers after Kai Wegner withdrew amid scrutiny over a winter power outage, maintains roughly 20-21% support across INSA, Infratest dimap, and Forschungsgruppe Wahlen surveys, compared with the AfD's 17-18%. The Linke leads or matches the CDU in several polls, while a broad firewall among other parties limits the AfD's coalition prospects. Recent campaign incidents and national AfD momentum have not yet shifted Berlin-specific trends enough to reverse the local edge.
