Iowa's 2nd congressional district remains an open seat after Republican incumbent Ashley Hinson opted to run for Senate, creating the first competitive contest since the district's boundaries were redrawn. The seat carries a Republican partisan voting index of R+4 and has favored GOP candidates in recent cycles, which supports the current 56.5% implied probability for the Republican nominee. Joe Mitchell secured the GOP nomination in the June 2 primary with backing from former President Trump, while Democrat Lindsay James won her party's primary and received endorsements such as from the Iowa Teamsters. With the general election set for November 3 and no major late-breaking developments reported in the past month, traders appear to weigh the district's underlying Republican tilt against the potential for Democratic gains in an open-seat environment.

A candidate's party will be determined by their ballot-listed or otherwise identifiable affiliation with that party at the time all of the 2026 House elections are conclusively called by this market's resolution sources. A candidate without a ballot-listed affiliation to either the Democrat or Republican parties will be considered a member of one of these parties based on the party with which they most recently expressed their intent to caucus at the time all of the House elections are conclusively called by this market's resolution sources.
This market will resolve based on the result of the election as indicated by a consensus of credible reporting. If there is ambiguity, this market will resolve based solely on the official results as reported by the United States government, specifically the Federal Election Commission (https://www.fec.gov/).
