Gold prices traded near $4,280–$4,300 per ounce during the week of September 14, 2026, pressured by a firmer U.S. dollar and rising Treasury yields as markets priced a roughly 92% implied probability of a Federal Reserve rate hike at the September 16 FOMC meeting—the first since 2023. Surging oil prices above $100 per barrel, driven by Middle East supply disruptions, reinforced inflation concerns and supported higher real yields, weighing on non-yielding assets like gold despite ongoing central bank purchases. This environment has contributed to a more than 3% September decline from August peaks near $4,500, with trader positioning thinning ahead of the policy decision. Key near-term catalysts include the FOMC outcome and any revisions to the dot plot that could shift rate path expectations.
