Recent coalition instability following the April 2026 collapse of the pro-European government has driven negotiations for a new prime minister, with trader odds reflecting support for compromise figures amid efforts to avoid snap elections. Alexandru Nazare, current finance minister from the National Liberal Party (PNL), leads at 47.7% after reports that PNL, USR, and UDMR are exploring a minority government under his leadership, with President Nicușor Dan reportedly open to the option. Sorin Grindeanu of the Social Democrats (PSD), the largest parliamentary party, holds 22.9% as PSD advances him to secure influence and stabilize fiscal policy. Other candidates trail due to narrower backing or prior nomination setbacks, including failed attempts with Eugen Tomac and Adrian Veștea. Ongoing parliamentary talks and the risk of early elections remain key variables shaping these probabilities.

To count for resolution, the individual must be formally appointed by the President of Romania and receive a vote of confidence from Parliament, resulting in the official formation of a new government. Any interim or caretaker Prime Minister who does not receive a parliamentary vote of confidence will not count toward the resolution of this market.
If no such Prime Minister takes office by December 31, 2027, 11:59 PM ET, this market will resolve to “Other”.
The primary resolution source for this market will be official information from the Government of Romania; however, a consensus of credible reporting may also be used.
