Rocha, in office since 2021, denied the allegations and on May 2 temporarily stepped aside to allow local investigations to proceed, after which Sinaloa lawmakers installed an acting governor. Mexican authorities reviewed the U.S. extradition request but determined insufficient grounds for provisional detention at that time, citing domestic legal standards. No Mexican or U.S. arrest of Rocha has occurred, and any future detention would depend on bilateral extradition processes, Interpol notices, or new evidence emerging from ongoing probes.
