This market will resolve based on the highest wind speed, in miles per hour, reported on the summit of Mt. Washington in New Hampshire in September, 2026. The resolution source will be data published by the Mt. Washington Weather Observatory. F6 reports containing daily wind speed recordings can be found here: https://mountwashington.org/weather/mount-washington-weather-archives/monthly-f6/. The resolution source for this market measures wind speeds to whole mile per hour (eg, 67mph). Thus, this is the level of precision that will be used when resolving the market. Revisions to the wind speed recorded within this market's timeframe will be considered until the first datapoint for the following month has been published, after which any alterations will not be considered.Mount Washington’s September wind speeds are shaped by the seasonal shift toward stronger fall pressure gradients and the potential for tropical cyclone remnants or coastal lows to deliver extreme gusts, as seen in the all-time record of 174 mph from Hurricane David’s remnants on September 6, 1979. The Mount Washington Observatory (MWO) and NWS report a 1991–2020 normal average wind speed of 27.6 mph and median peak gust near 94 mph, with recent Septembers (e.g., 85 mph max in 2025) remaining well below historical extremes. As of September 1, 2026, summit winds are light (under 30 mph gusts), but NWS forecasts indicate strengthening southeast flow mid-week with gusts potentially reaching 45–50 mph. Traders monitor NHC tropical outlooks, MWO daily observations, and model consensus for any systems that could push gusts above 100 mph, the key threshold distinguishing typical versus record-setting months.
